The June 2009 River Basin Tour was a great event! Check out the slideshow on the right side of this page for a glimpse of the tour. Over 90 people joined the Foundation for a fun and educational 2.5-day tour of the Rio Grande Basin. We learned what the San Luis Valley community is doing to restore and protect the watershed while planning for their water supply future. Tour participants included state legislators, water managers, engineers, local officials and educators. Some of the highlights were:
- Whitewater rafting the headwaters of the Rio Grande River
- Tour of the Costilla County acequias
- Rio Grande Reservoir project discussion
- Rio Grande restoration and conservation
- Groundwater management issues of the San Luis Valley
- Agricultural viability discussion
- Great Sand Dunes National Park
- Excellent dining experiences at local ranches
