River Basin Tours
Along with local water experts, CFWE delivered a fact-paced and educational 2.5-day journey across Southwestern Colorado. On the 2010 tour of the Dolores and San Juan river basins, a fun group of 90 legislators, water professionals and educators learned about watershed restoration and planning in this unique part of our state. Check out the slideshow on the right side of this page for some of the 2010 highlights, which included:
- Rafting the Animas River and touring the ruins of Mesa Verde
- Paleohydrology and ancient water use
- Dolores River Project and environmental river flows
- Lake Nighthorse, tribal water use and interstate compacts
- Planning for munipal growth and energy development
- River protection and recreational demands
- Evening entertainment at Blue Lake Ranch

The June 2009 River Basin Tour was a great event! Check out the slideshow on the right side of this page for a glimpse of the tour. Over 90 people joined the Foundation for a fun and educational 2.5-day tour of the Rio Grande Basin. We learned what the San Luis Valley community is doing to restore and protect the watershed while planning for their water supply future. Tour participants included state legislators, water managers, engineers, local officials and educators. Some of the highlights were:
- Whitewater rafting the headwaters of the Rio Grande River
- Tour of the Costilla County acequias
- Rio Grande Reservoir project discussion
- Rio Grande restoration and conservation
- Groundwater management issues of the San Luis Valley
- Agricultural viability discussion
- Great Sand Dunes National Park
