Colorado Water Leaders Program

The Colorado Foundation for Water Education is committed to providing education and leadership opportunities to professionals throughout the West. The Water Leaders Program was created in 2006 to offer emerging Colorado professionals the opportunity to develop their leadership potential with a focus on water resources issues. The year-long program has since provided training in conflict resolution, communication and negotiation to participants from across Colorado. Program Participants

Who Participates?

The Water Leaders course is open to any mid-level professional in Colorado with an interest in water resources and career development. Click on the pictures above to learn more about some of the past paticipants. The application process is open to participants from all walks of life and the program will strive to recruit diverse classes. Past participants include employees and managers from:

Candidates must exhibit clear leadership potential within their own organization, on-the-job experience in a leadership position, commitment to understanding water issues, and interest in seeking leadership roles on public boards and commissions or have the potential for advancement to key leadership roles within their own organization.

Information for 2010 Program

The application period for the 2010 class closed in November 2009.  Application dates for the 2011 class will be posted here when the materials become available.  If you want to be notified when the materials become available, please contact the office.

The focus of the Water Leaders class is split between personal leaderships skills and water resources education. 

Personal Leadership includes: conflict resolution, management techniques and working with different personality types.

Water Resources Education includes: opportunities to shadow senior Colorado water professionals for a day, attendance and participation in  the Colorado Water Congress Summer Convention, and peer learning through a collaborative education project with other class members.
